What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?

When measuring obesity, it would be more accurate to discuss degrees of obesity in BMI versus just in weight units suck as in pounds or kilograms.

BMI=(weight in kg) / (height in m2)

Considering both weight and height, this would significantly change a person's BMI. Refer to the chart below for example:

bmi chart

Using BMI as measurement, BMI of 40 is morbidly obese. Person "A": Healthy you male at 6'2" at 220lbs. would have a BMI of 28. Person "B": Shorter woman at 5'2" at 220lbs. would have a BMI of 40.

Even though both persons have the SAME weight of 220lbs., their difference in heights affect their BMI's. Although person "A" may have a weight of 220lbs., his BMI of 28 is much healthier than a woman with a BMI of 40.
