Joint Injections

NGPG Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine offers joint injections to aid in healing and pain reduction. Not all joint problems require injection, but for certain types of injuries and problems, joint injections can give pain relief and help your body to heal itself more efficiently.

Treatment Options

CORTISONE – If rest, medications, and physical therapy are not effective in relieving pain, your provider may recommend an injection of a local anesthetic and a steroid. Cortisone is a very effective anti-inflammatory medication used to reduce inflammation of a joint. Shots can be administered in our office and most patients notice relief very quickly. Your provider can discuss specific advantages and disadvantages of a cortisone injection for your specific condition.

EUFLEXXA, SYNVISC and SUPARTZ – These injections treat osteoarthritis of the knee at its pain source. All are highly purified forms of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a natural substance found in the body and helps cushion, lubricate and protect joints. Your physician can help you determine if you are a candidate for an HA injection and which treatment would be best for you.
