For Madalyn “Maddie” Slaton, a nurse practitioner, northeast Georgia isn’t just where she grew up – it’s where she’s building her family, her career and her future. After years caring for patients at Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s (NGMC) Level I Trauma Center in Gainesville, she’s further establishing herself in Dawsonville as she joins Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Dawsonville.
“My time in the emergency department shaped me in so many ways,” Slaton said. “It taught me how to care for people in their hardest moments. Now, I’m looking forward to forming deeper relationships with my patients and helping them along their entire health journey.”
A Flowery Branch native, Slaton grew up playing sports and went on to play college basketball at the University of North Georgia (UNG) before deciding to pursue a career in nursing.
“I’ve always been passionate about healthcare, interested in the human body and drawn to a profession where I can help others in meaningful ways,” Slaton said.
Slaton earned her master’s degree in nursing from UNG and spent four years working in NGMC Gainesville’s Emergency Department, treating patients of all ages and conditions. While at UNG, Slaton trained in multiple NGPG clinics, working alongside numerous providers in specialties like internal medicine, pediatrics, urgent care and OB/GYN. Through these rotations, many of them based in Dawsonville, she built relationships with patients and providers within the group she now joins full time.
Slaton moved to Dawsonville after marrying her husband, Tyler, six years ago. They now have two children – a 3-year-old daughter and a 6-month-old son – and stay busy with family time, church activities and rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs. Outside of work, Slaton loves to cook, bake and travel with her family. They recently visited the East Coast on a food-inspired road trip from Boston to Maine.
NGPG Dawsonville is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is located inside Medical Plaza 1 at 108 Prominence Court, Suite 200. Call 706-216-3238 to schedule an appointment or visit www.ngpg.org/slaton to learn more.
