People in northeast Georgia now have more access to lifesaving heart care. Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery recently added experienced and renowned heart surgeons Richard Harvey, MD, and David Langford, MD, to its growing practice in Gainesville.
Dr. Harvey and Dr. Langford have practiced together for more than a decade. Before joining NGPG, they practiced in Macon at Piedmont Heart Institute and in Lawrenceville at Northside Hospital Gwinnett. Both are seasoned in performing a wide range of adult cardiac surgical procedures. Practicing with NGPG, they will be an integral part of Georgia Heart Institute, the comprehensive heart and vascular service line of Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS).
Dr. Harvey has more than 30 years’ experience in medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi. He then completed a residency in General Surgery through Mercer University and a residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He is board-certified in Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Harvey specializes in mitral valve repair and replacement, minimally invasive surgery, surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation (AFib), and aortic surgery.
“I am excited to join Northeast Georgia Physicians Group and build on the tradition of excellence that this practice has established,” said Dr. Harvey. “In partnership with Georgia Heart Institute, NGPG’s cardiothoracic surgeons have been at the forefront of innovation while maintaining a foundation of quality.”

Dr. Langford has practiced medicine for four decades. A native of Atlanta, he earned his medical degree from Emory University. He completed a residency in General Surgery through the University of Mississippi Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident; a residency in Vascular Surgery and a residency in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
