From patient to provider, Laura Miller, FNP, joins NGPG Oakwood

Laura Miller never expected a labor and delivery room to change the course of her professional life. But when she welcomed her first child at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) in Gainesville, the care her nurses provided sparked a feeling inside her that she’s never been able to shake. Almost a decade – and two more kids – later, she’s joining that same health system as a family nurse practitioner at Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Oakwood.

“Those nurses really changed my life,” Miller said. “I remember looking at my husband and telling him, ‘This is what I want to do. I want to be a nurse.’ That experience set me on this path, and I’m so excited I get to follow my dream in this community.”

Miller earned her master’s degree in nursing from the University of North Georgia and spent more than four years at Northside Hospital Forsyth’s progressive care unit, where she cared for patients with a wide range of conditions and served as a preceptor for nursing students and new nurses. She also spent time on NGMC Gainesville’s mother-baby unit before training at a few NGPG locations, including NGPG Buford and NGPG OB/GYN.

Now, as a nurse practitioner, Miller is excited to join a primary care office and get the chance to build relationships over an extended time.

Outside of work, Miller and her husband stay busy with their three children. They enjoy hiking, having family movie nights and attending church. Miller also loves knitting, crocheting and running and hopes to run a half marathon next year.

NGPG Oakwood is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is located at 3931 Mundy Mill Road, Suite A. Call 770-848-9100 to schedule an appointment or visit ngpg.org/miller to learn more.
