Dealing with any colon or rectal medical issue is uncomfortable. However, the latest advanced treatment is now available nearby, as Nechol Allen, MD, a fellowship-trained and experienced colorectal surgeon, recently joined Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Surgical Associates in Braselton and is performing surgeries at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Braselton.
Dr. Allen is board-certified with more than 14 years of clinical experience and advanced training in minimally invasive and robotic assisted surgery designed to reduce pain, shorten recovery time and improve outcomes.
“I’m excited to provide this type of specialized care in this growing community and save people from driving to Gainesville, Gwinnett or even Atlanta,” says Dr. Allen. “We can help people right here, close to home, and get them back to living a full, healthy life faster than ever.”
After earning her medical degree from the University of New Mexico and completing her general surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Allen pursued additional fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery at Emory University. She then completed specialized fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at Ochsner Clinic, preparing her to manage both routine and complex colorectal conditions with the latest advanced techniques.
“Through my fellowships, I was trained at a time when minimally invasive and robotic techniques were rapidly evolving,” Dr. Allen said. “That experience shaped how I practice today, giving me the skills to offer patients advanced surgical options that support faster recovery without compromising safety or outcomes.”
For more than a decade, Dr. Allen practiced in Louisville, Kentucky, where she was recognized as a leader in robotic colorectal surgery and played an integral role in advancing minimally invasive surgical programs.
“I had the opportunity not only to care for patients, but also to help build and lead robotic surgery programs,” Dr. Allen said. “Introducing advanced techniques, mentoring other surgeons and seeing innovation translate into better recovery for patients was especially meaningful to me.”
In her clinical practice, Dr. Allen treats a broad range of conditions, from common anorectal concerns to complex colorectal cancers and inflammatory bowel disease. She is known for her ability to clearly explain diagnoses and treatment options, helping patients feel informed and confident in their care decisions.
“Every patient comes in with unique concerns, priorities, and goals,” Dr. Allen said. “My role is to meet them where they are, explain their options in clear terms and work together toward a surgical plan that feels right for them.”
Outside the operating room, she enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, listening to audiobooks, and spending time in her garden.
