A woman who started her healthcare journey as a teen volunteer with Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) has returned as a physician assistant, continuing to help the community that help raise her. Sarah Williamson, PA, has joined Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine and cares for patients in Dawsonville and Gainesville.
“I first fell in love with medicine while volunteering with NGHS, and I continued to work in the system’s hospitals as a patient care technician while I was in school, so it’s a blessing to reach this next step in my career in the organization where it all started,” Sarah shared. “And I chose to work in orthopedics because it combines my love of sports and helping patients engage in the activities they enjoy most – without pain.”
Sarah earned her master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from South College in Atlanta and holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Georgia. She is certified in basic life support and advanced cardiac life support, and she is a member of the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Sarah’s clinical focus includes care of thehand and upper extremities, from shoulder to fingers, working alongside orthopedic surgeon Travis Patterson, MD. She assists Dr. Patterson in the operating room and sees patients before and after surgery to guide them through every stage of treatment and recovery.
“Sarah is a tremendous addition to our team, both as a clinician and a person,” said Dr. Patterson. “People will benefit from her dedication, enthusiasm and compassion.”
When she’s not taking care of people, you can find Sarah helping her four-legged friends.
“If I’m not working, you’ll likely find me at an adoption event helping pets find loving homes or on the morning news encouraging people to adopt dogs and cats,” says Sarah. “Like me, pets do a great job keeping people active.”
Sarah is now accepting new patients. You can schedule appointments with her at ngpg.org/williamson or 770-219-9400, or you can stop by to see her at NGPG’s Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic locations in Gainesville or Dawsonville. Learn more at ngpg.org/ortho.
