Comprehensive Care for Patients During their Hospital Stay
When you or a loved one is hospitalized, it’s important to know your care is in the hands of experts who are focused solely on helping you heal. That’s where inpatient medicine comes in. Inpatient medicine is the specialized care provided to patients while they are in the hospital, from the moment of admission through to discharge.
About NGPG Inpatient Medicine
At Northeast Georgia Physicians Group Inpatient Medicine, our team consists of board-certified internal medicine physicians who specialize in caring for hospitalized patients. Also known as hospitalists, these physicians are dedicated to managing and coordinating care for patients during their entire hospital stay.
After discharge, patients are referred back to their primary care provider (PCP) or referring physician with complete documentation of their treatment, test results and medications, ensuring continuity of care.

We also provide care for patients with complex or multiple conditions that require hospitalization for observation, treatment and ongoing evaluation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral to receive care from NGPG Inpatient Medicine?
No referral is needed to receive care from our inpatient medicine team. If you are admitted to one of our hospitals, your care will be managed by our hospitalists automatically. We will communicate with your primary care provider during and after your stay.
Will my primary care doctor still be involved in my care?
Yes. While you are in the hospital, our hospitalists take the lead on your care, but they stay in touch with your PCP or referring physician. Once you’re discharged, your PCP will receive detailed notes and a summary of your treatment plan to continue your care.
How do hospitalists improve patient care?
Because hospitalists are based in the hospital full time, they can respond more quickly to changes in a patient’s condition, coordinate tests and treatments efficiently and improve communication between care team members. This often leads to shorter hospital stays, fewer complications and better outcomes.
What happens when I leave the hospital?
After discharge, your hospitalist will coordinate a follow-up plan and send a complete summary of your care—including any new medications or test results—to your primary care provider or referring physician. You’ll be guided on the next steps, including any follow-up appointments or additional treatments needed.
