By now, you’ve noticed that some of our Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) practices in Gainesville and Braselton have a new term attached to them — Graduate Medical Education Program Affiliate.
Graduate Medical Education, otherwise known as GME, is a medical education program through a health system that commits to further train doctors, typically called resident physicians, who have graduated medical school. The goal is to gain more hands-on training in their specialty, so they are prepared to pass their board certification exam and treat patients on their own. This bright and talented group has already earned their medical degree and are licensed doctors.
With 60 Internal Medicine residents at our Internal Medicine practices in Gainesville and Braselton, and 24 Family Medicine residents at our Family Medicine practice in Gainesville, you’ll see them quite a bit! Once you meet them, you’ll notice they love to spend time with you and answer all of your questions.
Although you won’t see these residents online through our provider listings or online booking, when you schedule an appointment at one of these practices, you’ll typically be scheduled with a resident — in most cases, you can even be seen the same day you call — instead of the provider, you see online. The attending physicians (me and other NGPG doctors) work alongside the residents every day to ensure no stone is left unturned during your visit.
Our resident physicians bring the latest, cutting-edge knowledge and techniques to our team. It truly is a win-win situation, you benefit from having quick access to care, and your health benefits from having more eyes on your case.
