Women who are getting ready to welcome a new child now have more support in Habersham County, as Heather Presley, a certified nurse midwife (CNM), has joined Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) OB/GYN in Demorest. Heather provides comprehensive midwifery and obstetric care in the office, and she also provides labor and delivery services at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Habersham.
“I believe in a holistic approach to caring for people, which is what I practice every day,” said Presley. “I am passionate about empowering women through education, making them feel heard, being their advocate and providing emotional support that goes beyond the typical clinical care plan.”
Presley earned her nursing degree from Brenau University and began her career as a registered labor and delivery nurse. She later earned her master’s degree in Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University in Versailles, Kentucky. Presley’s dedication to her patients and providing exceptional care earned her the DAISY Award, a national recognition honoring nurses for extraordinary compassion and clinical excellence. She also holds certifications in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Advanced Life Support (ALS).
Presley’s inspiration to enter the medical field started at home.
“My dad was a medic in the Army, and I loved hearing his stories as I grew up,” said Presley. “Then, when I had my own daughter when I was 16 years old, I didn’t have a good experience – and that planted a seed that I wanted to be a positive force for change in modern maternal medicine and help other mothers.”
A year after her daughter was born, Presley went to college and then joined a nursing program. After nearly ten years as a nurse, she became a midwife. When deciding where to practice, Presley says she was searching for a place that felt like home.
“I wanted to be somewhere I never wanted to leave and find a job where coming to work feels easy,” she said. “I knew that meant finding a group that felt like family. NGPG OB/GYN Demorest gave me that.”
Presley has a particular passion for maternal mental health. Her approach emphasizes trust, open communication and shared decision-making.
“I want to create a safe space where patients feel educated and heard through open discussions,” she explained. “My goal is to make sure every patient feels supported.”
As a longstanding and celebrated OB/GYN physician in Habersham County, Thomas Hatchett Jr., MD, emphasized how closely Presley’s experience and philosophy align with both the practice and the community it serves.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Heather to our OB/GYN team in Habersham,” said Dr. Hatchett. “Heather’s skill, focus on education and advocacy will be a tremendous asset to our patients and our community.”
Outside of her work, Presley enjoys spending time with her family. She loves watching her children’s sporting events and taking spontaneous trips with them.
“When school is out, my husband and I are always taking them somewhere — usually indoor water parks or the beach — and often with no notice. We just wake up, pack a bag and go.”
Presley is now accepting new patients at NGPG OB/GYN Demorest. For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit ngpg.org/presley or call 706-754-3997.
