Nurse practitioner Kathleen LaFevers joining NGPG, providing primary care in Habersham

For Kathleen LaFevers, a family nurse practitioner, healthcare is personal. Her grandmother’s time as a patient in an intensive care unit (ICU) inspired her to work in ICUs and operating rooms for a decade, and now she’s bringing that expertise to Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Internal Medicine in Demorest to care for adults not just in emergencies, but in their everyday lives.

“I’m so excited to join such an established group in Demorest,” LaFevers said. “Being part of every season of someone’s health is what drew me to primary care, so I’m excited to start building deep connections with patients.”

LaFevers earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Georgia Southern University, making her a proud “Double Eagle,” and completed her family nurse practitioner training earlier this year. During her clinical rotations, she trained in several NGPG practices, including the practice she’s now joining.

Originally from Flowery Branch, LaFevers spent the first decade of her career as a registered nurse with experience spanning the ICU at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, pediatric ICU at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and, most recently, as an operating room nurse at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. She also worked in a COVID-19 ICU in 2020, which she said was one of the most difficult, humbling and meaningful times of her life.

“Caring for patients in critical moments taught me so much about compassion and resilience,” LaFevers said. “Now, I’m excited to shift that focus to long-term care and be a steady presence in my patients’ lives.”

Outside of work, LaFevers enjoys spending time on Lake Lanier with her husband, Chris, their four-year-old daughter, Palmer, and their dog, Gatsby. She also enjoys antiquing, restoring old furniture, photography and watching college football – especially when The Ohio State Buckeyes are playing.

NGPG Internal Medicine is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is located at 800 Austin Drive in Demorest. Call 706-839-4092 to schedule an appointment or visit ngpg.org/lafevers to learn more.
