NGPG expands orthopedic care in Bethlehem with two new providers

It’s easier than ever to get help for your knee, hip, shoulder, joint or muscle pain close to home as Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Orthopedics & Sports Medicine welcomes a new physician and physician assistant in Bethlehem.

Matthew DuBose, MD, is now caring for people in Bethlehem. He provides care and surgery for a wide range of orthopedic conditions and specializes in advanced procedures that restore mobility and quality of life. His expertise includes joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, shoulder surgery and ACL reconstruction for sports injuries – as well as treating cartilage injury and fractures.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to guide someone from injury through recovery and watch them regain their independence,” says Dr. Dubose. “As a native Georgian and UGA alum, I’m excited to serve this community.”

Dr. Dubose received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, earned his medical degree from Mercer University in Macon and completed his residency at LSU Shreveport. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, following UGA football and grilling – preferably all at the same time.

“My family is currently enjoying my latest hobby: grilling and smoking meats,” Dr. Dubose shared with a laugh. “They’re always the lucky first to taste whatever I come up with.”

Dr. DuBose is joined by J. Michael Rutledge, a certified physician assistant and U.S. Army veteran with 10 years of service. Michael’s path to medicine was shaped by his love of science and a deep desire to help others.

“Orthopedics was a natural fit, because it combines my background in athletic training with hands-on problem-solving to help patients get back on their feet quickly,” said J. Michael.

J. Michael completed his undergraduate degree at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega and then earned his master’s degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee, Georgia. His connection to NGPG began during his physician assistant training, when he completed a clinical rotation at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville.

“I recognized the NGPG surgeons’ work ethic and commitment to patient care were unmatched,” said J. Michael. “When I moved back to Georgia after a few years out of state, I knew there was no other place I wanted to work.”

When he’s not helping patients, J. Michael enjoys woodworking, playing the guitar, creating visual art and spending time outdoors hiking, camping, skiing and snowboarding.

Dr. DuBose and J. Michael Rutledge are both accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment, call 770-215-2453 or visit npgg.org/dubose or ngpg.org/rutledge.
