Imagine you’re 8 years old, riding your bicycle outside and, in an instant – everything changes. That’s what happened when Cody Davis flipped over his handlebars, lacerating his liver and causing severe internal bleeding. He was rushed to the emergency department, underwent emergency surgery and spent seven days recovering in the hospital.
“When I think back on my bike accident, I think of all the challenges my family and I faced,” Davis said. “But I’m thankful it led me to my journey in medicine.”
Davis is now a certified physician assistant, and he’s jumping into family medicine at Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Buford.
Before becoming a physician assistant, Davis grew up in Snellville, graduated from Grayson High School and spent years teaching martial arts at his family’s studio in Lawrenceville. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Georgia State University in Atlanta and his master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers.
“I practiced across the Atlanta area in neurosurgery, urgent care and even within the Fulton County jail,” Davis said. “After gaining all of that valuable experience, I’m excited to come back home to Gwinnett County to care for people and the community that shaped me.”
Apart from his clinical career, Davis has spent the past few years working as a principal faculty member in the department of physician assistant studies at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. He’s also worked as the director of clinical education, helping students get the real-world experience needed before graduation.
Outside of work, Davis enjoys spending time with his wife of 10 years and their 2-year-old daughter. He and his wife serve on their church’s worship team, where he plays guitar. Davis also enjoys woodworking, golfing and visiting his family’s martial arts school, which is still run by his mother and brother.
